UNIMAID Makes ID Cards Mandatory for Campus Access

The management of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has announced new security measures requiring all members of the university community to display their official identification cards at all entry and exit points on campus.

In a statement obtained by The News Chronicle, the university’s Security Division, staff, students, and visitors were reminded that carrying and presenting a valid UNIMAID identification card is now mandatory. According to the statement, the measure is aimed at strengthening safety on campus and preventing unauthorized individuals from gaining access to the university premises.

The Security Division explained that the university has witnessed an increasing need to tighten security checks, given the size of the institution and the steady flow of people moving in and out daily.

By making ID cards compulsory at all gates, the university hopes to create a more secure and controlled environment for teaching, learning, and research.

“This policy is part of our ongoing commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the university community,” the notice read. “Members of the university are therefore advised to comply fully, as security personnel have been directed to deny access to anyone without a valid ID card.”

The management also urged students and staff to view the directive not just as a security obligation, but as a collective responsibility to maintain orderliness on campus.

The statement further assured members of the community that the policy will not only improve security but also help in identifying genuine members of the institution.

Reactions from students and staff have been largely supportive, with many acknowledging that the initiative will help to curb incidents of impersonation and reduce the risk of crime within the campus.

However, some have called on the university to ensure that the process of issuing ID cards is made faster and more efficient, so that no student or staff member is left stranded at the gates.

The university management concluded by appreciating the cooperation of the community and reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe and conducive environment for learning.
