UNIMAID Hosts TETFund Workshop, Reaffirms Staff Training Commitment

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, has restated the institution’s commitment to training and retraining its staff to strengthen human capacity development.

He made this known on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, while declaring open a two-day sensitization workshop on manuscript development, titled “How to Access TETFund Funding to Publish Manuscripts into Books,” held at the Muhammadu Indimi International Conference Centre, University of Maiduguri.

Represented by Professor Ibrahim Dauda Illaya of the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Vice-Chancellor explained that the Manuscript Development Committee was set up by the university to review publishable manuscripts, ensure they meet TETFund requirements, and recommend them for publication.

He emphasized that publishing books, attending conferences, and participating in workshops are vital to academic growth, while journal publications remain a key requirement for staff promotion.

“The University of Maiduguri, being a hub for training and retraining for human development, finds this initiative by the Manuscript Development Committee timely and important,” he said.

Professor Mele commended the committee for its efforts and urged academic staff to take full advantage of the workshop.

He encouraged participants to use the opportunity to understand TETFund guidelines, which will enable them to transform their Ph.D. and M.Sc. theses into published books.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the TETFund Manuscript Development Committee (TMDC) at UNIMAID, Professor Ibrahim Maina Waziri, noted that the conversion of academic manuscripts into books is one of TETFund’s major interventions in Nigerian universities.

He added that since the inauguration of the TMDC at the University of Maiduguri, the committee has been working tirelessly to revive the university’s publishing house and support staff in accessing TETFund opportunities.
