FIFA president Gianni Infantino is facing mounting opposition after UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation and CONCACAF jointly accused him of breaking trust over plans involving the commercial rights to the World Cup.
The three confederations criticised the FIFA president’s handling of the proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise, which could allow private investors to acquire interests in major FIFA competitions. They said the process raised serious concerns about transparency, governance and consultation.
The News Chronicle reports that the latest intervention represents a major challenge to Infantino’s leadership ahead of the 2027 FIFA presidential election, with three powerful confederations now openly questioning his approach to running the global game.
The dispute intensified after FIFA promoted plans to raise funds by offering investors stakes linked to its commercial activities, including the World Cup. Although the proposal was subsequently withdrawn, opposition from several football authorities has continued.
UEFA has previously discussed stronger measures in response to the plan, including possible non participation in FIFA competitions.
The latest alliance could further weaken Infantino’s position as football’s governing bodies demand greater accountability and clearer decision-making.
The growing dispute now threatens to become one of the biggest governance battles of Infantino’s presidency.
