UCL QF: Madrid and City Share Spoils in Six-goal Thriller Match

—

Real Madrid and Manchester City shared the spoils in a six-goal thriller match during the first leg of the 2024 UEFA Champions League quarter-final stage played at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, the home ground of Real Madrid.

Bernardo Silva’s exceptional free kick for Manchester City broke the deadlock early on. Real Madrid responded with an equalizer courtesy of Camavinga’s deflected shot in the twelfth minute. Rodrigo extended Los Blancos’ lead with a goal two minutes later, making it 2-1 in the first half.

The second half began with City commanding possession. Phil Foden restored City’s confidence following his 66th-minute equalizer. While maintaining dominance, Gvardiol’s 70th-minute goal provided City with a 3-2 lead. Just when City might have been thinking it’s over, Valverde leveled the game to 3-3 with 12 minutes left to decide the first tie.

The team to progress to the next round will be decided when both teams lock horns again at the Etihad Stadium in England on April 17th.
