Uche Ogbodo Says Leaving an Unhappy Marriage Isn’t a Sin

—

Nollywood actress Uche Ogbodo has addressed the rumours surrounding her marriage to Bobby Maris, confirming that the union has ended after eight years.

Ogbodo shared a series of posts on her Instagram story on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at around 10:04 PM, saying she is tired of the “princess” she married. She used the post to question why society judges women harshly for leaving unhappy marriages while treating the same decision from men differently.

She wrote: “For person to tire for marriage now nah taboo because nah woman? Must it always be man must taya? My tayad is tayad! I am tayad of the Princess wey dey marry me.”

She continued: “What is wrong with that? To be happy as a woman in marriage nah by connection in this country! I no do again nah sin? Make nobody push me to the wall because I be rubber oo! 8 years of my life isn’t enough yet? Maybe I should give it 20 years or maybe 6 feet under before the crown of thorns can fit me well.”

Ogbodo also used the story to caution bloggers against publishing false claims about her private life. She wrote: “All these bloggers, be collecting receipts ooo! No dey post fake news. Ask for receipts. Cos I come correct with receipts. I’m not like my predecessors o!”

The development follows claims made earlier by Ogbodo’s sister, Sochima, who accused Bobby Maris of failing to support his family. In a separate set of Instagram story posts, Sochima described Maris as a man who “sleeps from Monday to Sunday” and contributes nothing to the household.

She wrote: “Very lazy thing!! Sleeps from Monday to Sunday, contributes absolutely nothing to the growth of the family, not even physical, emotional, or general care for his children.”

Sochima also accused Maris of provoking Ogbodo and recording her reactions during arguments. She claimed he later used the recordings to portray her negatively online.

Ogbodo’s posts have drawn mixed reactions from social media users. Some defended her right to leave the marriage. Instagram user okwy_mfb commented: “What BBL cannot do does not exist. Tayad you don Taya us too.”

Others criticised her. On X, user @moregist2 wrote that women are rarely blamed when a marriage fails, adding that men are often labelled unfit to lead a family once a relationship ends. User @haNzo_DowMaker argued that men who try to accommodate their wives eventually “cry later,” while @djdimpl asked why she married Maris if she could not keep to her vows.

A few commenters, including @oliveristall, urged Ogbodo to stay out of other people’s relationships if she has chosen to leave her own.

Ogbodo and Maris has not issued a joint statement on the marriage as of the time of this report.
