UBEC Boosts Learning in Benue with Distribution of Instructional Materials

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has further demonstrated its commitment to improving the quality of basic education with the distribution of Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) to public basic schools across Benue State.

The distribution exercise was officially flagged off at the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) headquarters in Makurdi, signalling the rollout of UBEC-supported instructional resources aimed at enhancing classroom interaction, strengthening early literacy, promoting digital learning, and improving overall learning outcomes in public basic schools.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Hajiya Aisha Garba, represented by the UBEC North Central Director, Elder Edward Abalaka, emphasized that the availability of quality teaching and learning materials remains central to effective teaching and learning.

She commended the Benue State Government for its consistency in accessing and effectively utilising UBEC interventions, and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting the State in building a functional, inclusive, and efficient basic education system.

The intervention includes the provision of smart boards, computers, English and Mathematics textbooks, Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) books, History textbooks, storybooks, whiteboard markers, and other essential instructional materials designed to support both teachers and learners at the basic education level.

UBEC also applauded the Executive Chairman of Benue SUBEB, Dr. Grace Adagba, for repositioning the Board for greater efficiency and for ensuring that the materials were carefully selected to address classroom realities and enhance learning outcomes across schools in the State.

Flagging off the distribution on behalf of the Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Sam Ode, described basic education as the cornerstone of sustainable national development and assured that the State Government would safeguard and deploy the materials appropriately to public schools.

The initiative underscores UBEC’s mandate to support States with critical educational resources, promote accountability in the basic education sector, and ensure that Nigerian children have access to quality, inclusive, and equitable basic education nationwide.
