UAE Introduces Strict Penalties for Online Insults

—

The UAE Public Prosecution has announced severe penalties for individuals who insult others or attribute false facts through online platforms.

Offenders could face fines between Dhs250,000 and Dhs500,000, and in some cases, imprisonment.
The law provides for either imprisonment or fines for those found guilty of such offenses.
The penalties become even harsher if the insult is directed at a public official or someone in public service while performing their duties, as this is classified as an aggravating circumstance.
These measures highlight the UAE’s commitment to ensuring respectful online conduct and preventing the misuse of information technology.
