The 2024 U-17 FIFA Women’s World Cup saw Nigeria’s Under-17 team defeat New Zealand 4-1 in their first Group A game at the Estadio Cibao FC, Santiago.

In just the 28th minute of the first half, Nigeria had already overpowered New Zealand, leading 3-0 with goals from Shakirat Moshood, Taiwo Adegoke, and Farida Abdulwahab.

Taiwo Afolabi made it 4-0 in the 55th minute, with New Zealand pulling one back as a consolation goal in the 60th minute.

The team tops Group A after the emphatic victory and will face Ecuador in their second group game.

The Flamingoes’ best campaign in the U-17 FIFA Women’s World Cup came in 2022 when they finished third. They have also been African champions five times, with their most recent title in 2016.
