Two Arrested for Alleged Vandalism of 33KV Power Line in Adamawa

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Adamawa State Command, has arrested two men suspected of vandalising critical electricity infrastructure along the 33KV Hong–Garaha network line.
The suspects, identified as 29-year-old Kukuya Yakubu and 30-year-old Rabiu Haruna, were arrested on Saturday, August 22, 2026, by operatives of the NSCDC Hong Division following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected vandals operating in the area.
According to the Command, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly involved in the vandalism of approximately 500 metres of 150mm Aluminium Conductor Cable (ACC) along the 33KV Hong–Garaha network line.
The NSCDC said the suspects allegedly intended to sell the vandalised cables to scavengers for financial gain.
The Commandant, Nasiru Saleh, said the arrest was part of the Command’s sustained efforts to protect critical national assets and infrastructure from vandalism and other criminal activities that could disrupt essential services to communities.
The Command issued a stern warning to vandals, scavengers and other individuals involved in the illegal removal, purchase or disposal of critical infrastructure to desist from such activities, stressing that anyone found culpable would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The two suspects remain in custody while investigations continue; they will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Commandant commended officers and men of the Hong Division for their vigilance, professionalism and prompt response to credible intelligence.
The Command also assured residents that it would intensify surveillance and intelligence-led operations across Adamawa State to safeguard critical national assets.
The NSCDC urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities around electricity installations and other critical national infrastructure to the nearest NSCDC office.
