In a recent incident highlighting the growing concerns about academic integrity, Turkish authorities have apprehended a student for utilizing an unconventional method involving artificial intelligence software to cheat during a university entrance exam.
The student’s suspicious behavior during the exam drew attention, leading to their detention by the police.
Subsequently, they were formally arrested and are currently awaiting trial in jail.
Additionally, another individual who was aiding the student in the cheating attempt has also been detained.
A video released by the police in the southwestern province of Isparta demonstrated the elaborate setup used by the student.
It involved a camera cleverly disguised as a shirt button, connected to AI software through a concealed router in the sole of a shoe.
The AI software would then provide the correct answers to exam questions, which were relayed to the student through an earpiece.
This incident reflects the challenges faced by educational institutions in combating academic dishonesty, particularly with the increasing sophistication of technology.
Authorities are likely to intensify efforts to prevent such incidents and maintain the integrity of examinations.
