Turkish Citizens Barred from Accessing Instagram

Turkey has barred its citizens from accessing Instagram amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The national communications authority announced the restriction but did not provide any reasons for the move.

The Speculator Index also confirmed the blockade.

This action follows accusations of censorship by a high-ranking Turkish official against the US-based social media platform.

On its website, the BTK communications authority stated that Instagram was blocked by a decision made on August 2, 2024.

Additionally, Fahrettin Altun, the Turkish presidency’s communications director, criticized Instagram on Wednesday, claiming the platform hindered users from posting messages of condolence for the martyr Haniyeh.

Altun described this as a blatant act of censorship.
