Tuggar Loses Bauchi APC Governorship Ticket To Abubakar

—

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has failed to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for Bauchi State ahead of the 2027 general election after losing the party’s primary election.
Tuggar, who was among cabinet members that complied with President Bola Tinubu’s directive requiring ministers seeking elective offices to resign before March 31, 2027, came second in the keenly contested primary.
Announcing the results on Saturday morning, chairman of the APC primary election committee, retired AIG John Abang, declared former Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abubakar, winner of the exercise.
Abubakar defeated six other aspirants to clinch the party’s governorship ticket, polling 57,517 votes. Tuggar secured 26,001 votes to finish second, while Nura Manu Soro came third with 13,638 votes.
Other aspirants in the race included Bala Maijama’a Wunti, who scored 13,648 votes, Kabir Baba Ma’aji with 8,157 votes, Baba Abubakar Suleiman who polled 7,688 votes, and Yakubu Yakubu Abdullahi, who garnered 7,181 votes.
Abubakar, who governed Bauchi State under the APC, lost his re-election bid in 2019 to incumbent Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). With his victory in the APC primary, the former governor is set for another shot at reclaiming the state’s top seat in the 2027 election.
