Trump Advised to Lose Weight Despite Being Declared Fit for Office

—

United States President Donald Trump has been advised to lose weight and increase his physical activity, although his physician said he remains in “excellent health” and is fit to perform his duties.

The recommendation was contained in a medical report released by the White House on Friday, May 30, following Trump’s annual physical examination conducted at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center earlier in the week.

White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella said the 79-year-old president demonstrated “strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and overall physical function.”

“President Trump remains in excellent health,” Barbabella wrote. “Cognitive and physical performance are excellent. He is fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.”

The report stated that Trump is 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 238 pounds (108 kilograms), an increase from the 224 pounds recorded during his previous medical examination in April 2025.

According to Barbabella, preventive counselling provided during the examination included guidance on diet, increased physical activity, continued weight loss and the use of low-dose aspirin.

The physician also noted that Trump continues to experience mild swelling in his lower legs, but said the condition had improved since last year. The swelling is linked to chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that affects blood flow in the veins of the legs.

Barbabella said the bruising on Trump’s hand was “common, benign and consistent with minor soft tissue irritation related to frequent handshaking” while taking aspirin for cardiovascular prevention.

Trump also underwent a neurological assessment and scored 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, a screening test used to detect signs of cognitive impairment.

Regarding his heart health, the physician said an artificial intelligence-assisted electrocardiogram estimated Trump’s cardiac age to be approximately 14 years younger than his actual age.

Following the examination, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that “everything checked out perfectly.”

Trump, who turns 80 in June, is the oldest person to have been inaugurated as president of the United States.
