Troops Rescue Two Girls After Escape from Terrorist Hideout in Borno

Troops of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion under Operation HADIN KAI have rescued two girls who escaped from a terrorist camp in the Mandara Mountains and reunited them with their families in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to security sources, the rescue took place at about 7:00 a.m. on July 2 during a routine patrol by soldiers stationed in Ngoshe.

The troops reportedly discovered the girls near Armuda Bridge while carrying out a standing patrol from their mountain position. After approaching with caution, the soldiers confirmed that the pair were civilians who had fled captivity.

The rescued victims were identified as 15-year-old Bintu Adamu and 11-year-old Sadiya Jummai.

Following the rescue operation, the troops conducted a sweep of the surrounding area, covering approximately 400 metres, to ensure there were no immediate security threats before returning to their base.

Initial findings indicated that the girls had been abducted from Ngoshe community by terrorists and taken to a hideout in the Chinene area of the Mandara Mountains. They reportedly escaped after taking advantage of an opportunity before eventually being found by the military patrol.

The soldiers provided the girls with first aid before handing them over to the community leader of Ngoshe, Mallam Bulama Kunda, at the community camp, where they were reunited with their families.

The successful rescue highlights the ongoing efforts of troops under Operation HADIN KAI to rescue kidnapped victims, dismantle terrorist camps and improve security across insurgency-affected communities in the North-East.
