Troops Rescue Six Kidnapped Victims After Gun Battle with Terrorists in Kebbi

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have rescued six kidnapped victims after engaging suspected terrorists along the Wasagu-Ayu Road in Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The operation was carried out on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, following credible intelligence indicating terrorist activity around Mehinua Village in the area, The News Chronicle reports.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the troops mobilised to the location and made contact with the terrorists, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire.

The troops’ superior firepower forced the terrorists to flee, abandoning the six victims in their custody.

The victims were subsequently rescued unharmed, while the vehicle involved was recovered and handed over, alongside the rescued persons, to the relevant community authorities for further necessary action.

The successful operation underscores the determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect lives and property and deny terrorists freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.

The task force also commended members of the public for their continued support, urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the nearest security outpost.
