Troops Rescue Six Kidnap Victims After Dramatic Escape From Bandits in Katsina

Troops of the 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued six kidnap victims who escaped from their captors in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

According to a statement signed by Captain Abayomi Adisa, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 17 Brigade Nigerian Army and made available to The News Chronicle, the victims were rescued on June 29, 2026, when troops stationed at Unguwan Doka, during a routine foot patrol, spotted six exhausted victims wandering through the bush after fleeing from armed bandits.

Those rescued include four women and two young boys: Mrs. Umaima Isiaku (30), Amina Isiaku (16), Safiya Isiaku (15), Ramatu Suleiman (30), Muhammad Shehu (4), and Ibrahim Suleiman (2).

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims had been abducted by bandits from Unguwan Lado in Kankara Local Government Area on June 22, 2026, before seizing an opportunity to escape.

Following the rescue, the troops administered first aid and provided food and other essential relief items before safely reuniting the victims with their families.

Commending the troops’ vigilance, the Commander of the 17 Brigade, Brigadier General Ishaya Ibrahim, reiterated the Brigade’s resolve to intensify offensive operations against bandits and other criminal elements while safeguarding lives and property across its area of responsibility.
