Troops Repel Boko Haram Attack on Military Base in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully stopped an attack by Boko Haram /ISWAP fighters on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Mairari, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack began late on Friday, December 12, 2025, and continued into the early hours of Saturday, December 13. Soldiers responded quickly with both ground troops and air support, forcing the attackers to retreat.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by Lt. Colonel Sani Uba, the terrorists tried to enter the base using two Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs). However, the devices were detected early and destroyed by the troops before they could reach the base.
Military sources said CCTV footage and field reports confirmed that several of the attackers were killed, while others were injured. The surviving fighters fled the area, taking their dead and wounded with them.
After the failed attack, troops from Sector 3, supported by the Theatre Command Quick Reaction Group, the Nigeria Police Crack Team, and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), carried out follow-up operations in the surrounding areas.
During the operation, troops recovered weapons, ammunition, and other items abandoned by the terrorists. These included AK-47 rifles, magazines, ammunition, PKT rounds, hand grenades, motorcycles, communication devices, combat gear, medical supplies, and other logistics.
Although the two VBIEDs were destroyed along the road leading to the base, causing minor damage, the FOB was not breached.
Troops are continuing patrols around Mairari to prevent further attacks and to reassure residents of the military’s continued presence.
Operation Hadin Kai reaffirmed its commitment to fighting terrorism, protecting civilians, and restoring peace and stability in the North East.
