Troops Foil Planned Attack, Kill Two Lakurawa Terrorists, Recover Weapons in Kebbi

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted a planned terrorist attack in Kebbi State, killing two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovering a cache of weapons and ammunition during a successful offensive operation.

The operation, carried out on Friday, June 27, 2026, in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State, was part of the military’s sustained campaign to dismantle terrorist networks and strengthen security across the North-West.

According to the military, the operation was launched after credible intelligence revealed that the terrorists were preparing to attack Sabarumawa community. Acting swiftly, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 deployed to the area and laid a tactical ambush along the terrorists’ suspected route.

As the suspects advanced into the ambush, troops engaged them in a fierce gun battle, overwhelming the terrorists with superior firepower. Two of the terrorists were neutralised, while others escaped into the surrounding forest with gunshot wounds.

A follow-up exploitation of the area led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle believed to have been used by the fleeing terrorists.

The military said the successful operation underscores Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s unwavering commitment to eliminating terrorist and criminal elements threatening peace in the North-West.

It also urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to bolster ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
