Troops Block ISWAP Advance, Secure Maiduguri in Overnight Battle

Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have foiled multiple coordinated infiltration attempts by suspected ISWAP terrorists in different parts of Borno State, preventing the insurgents from breaching key locations around Maiduguri and other communities.

In a statement made available to The News Chronicle, the military said the attacks occurred between 12:20 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026, when the terrorists attempted to infiltrate Muna Garage, Shuwari Village and the Ajilari Cross axis to gain access into the Maiduguri metropolis.

According to the Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, troops detected the advancing insurgents through early warning systems and engaged them from multiple directions with heavy and accurate firepower, successfully repelling all infiltration attempts.

In separate operations, troops also thwarted fresh attempts by the terrorists to infiltrate Miringa and Dutsen Kura in Buratai.

During the pursuit of the fleeing terrorists in Miringa, a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). However, no casualties were recorded, and the situation has remained under control.

The military said the terrorists, overwhelmed by the troops’ swift tactical response, abandoned their mission and retreated in disarray across all fronts.

Troops are currently conducting clearance and exploitation operations to track down the fleeing insurgents, consolidate operational gains, dominate the affected areas and prevent further threats to nearby communities.

Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive offensives against terrorist groups, vowing to deny them freedom of movement while safeguarding lives and property across the North-East.

The military also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
