Troops Arrest Three Suspected ISWAP Recruitment Agents in Borno

—

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai Joint Task Force North-East have arrested three suspected recruitment agents of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Banki town, Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

Credible security sources disclosed that the suspects were apprehended on Saturday, January 17, 2027 following a tip-off from a prominent resident of Banki, who requested anonymity.

According to the sources, intelligence operatives were deployed to the area on a covert operation and arrested the suspects while they were allegedly attempting to recruit and transport youths for terrorism training.

The suspects were identified as Gajibo Kayama, 23, Tahiru Modu, 22 and Bulama Modu, 24.

They are believed to have been involved in recruiting youths between the ages of 17 and 20 from Banki town for ISWAP elements operating in Adamawa State.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects claimed to have repented from insurgency activities about five years ago but were allegedly re-engaging in recruitment for the terror group.

ā€œThey were arrested while trying to recruit and convey youths within Banki town for training in Adamawa State,ā€ one of the sources said.

Security authorities said investigations are ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to dismantle remaining terrorist recruitment networks in the region.
