The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of five police officers following a severe motor accident that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday along the Zaria-Kano road.
The officers were returning to Kano after completing an official assignment when their vehicle collided head-on with a trailer.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police (SP) Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the unfortunate incident during a telephone interview with the press on Tuesday.
According to SP Haruna, the fatal accident took place at Karfi village, located within the Kura Local Government Area, just a few kilometers from Kano.
“The accident happened at Karfi, which is not far from Kano. Unfortunately, five of our officers lost their lives in the crash, while eleven others sustained various degrees of injuries,” SP Haruna stated.
He further revealed that the injured officers were quickly transported to a nearby medical facility to receive emergency treatment.
The wounded are currently being treated at Murtala Mohammad Specialist Hospital in Kano, where medical personnel are working diligently to manage their injuries.
Eyewitnesses report that the police vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a trailer in the village of Karfi.
The impact was so severe that five officers were killed instantly at the scene of the crash.
The injured officers were immediately rushed to the hospital, where they are now receiving medical care.
The accident has left a somber mood within the Kano State Police Command, and investigations are reportedly underway to determine the exact cause of the collision.
