To Where Christians?

Stanley Ugagbe

There is nothing I want to say than the differences between the ANCIENT and the MODERN Church.

When the choristers of the old time finished singing, the congregation burst into tears because they sang down the glory of God but in the modern, after singing the congregation responds with a clap offering, returning Ichabod to Ichabod.

The character of the old Christians was what made people to know that they were Christians but today, people open their mouth to say they’re Christians before others can know that they are Christians.

The old prophet prophesies and tells the people the mind of God, what God desires and the people’s shortcomings and then they will weep and turn back to God. The modern prophets prophecy stuff and tell the people, you will make it or you will die if you don’t sow a seed and things will be tight for you if you don’t pay your tithe.

In the old, only those who had the spirit of God and were exuding wisdom and righteousness were appointed as deacon, patron and into other leadership positions but in the modern Church, once you have money, you’re automatically qualified.

During sermons, the old will cry and tell God that they’re sorry, but today, as the sermon is going on, people drop money, blow whistle and shout ride on Pastor.

The old went to Church and the message gave them faith but the modern went to Church and the message gave them fake olive oil, handkerchief, apron, sticker, holy water and the calendar of their G.O.

The Pastors of old preached and prayed for the members of the Church freely because the gift of God is free but the modern Pastors will tell you to sow a seed before it works, trying to make it look like it is the money that will pave way.

The old Church used their money to reach out to the poor and less privileged. But the modern Church use their money to build schools, yet the poor that made the contribution cannot afford the school fees.

The main message of the ancient Church was repentance and how to make heaven but the message of the modern Church is breakthrough for money and prosperity.

The ancient priest made friends with the poor but the modern priest makes friends with the rich and politicians.

The old go to Church with their heads covered with head ties but the modern go to Church with their head covered with Brazilian weavon.

During prayers, the ancient close their eyes and give God their whole attention but the modern open their eyes, looking around like armed robbers and even answer calls during prayers.

The ancient go to Church with their body covered and are focused on the inner beauty. But the modern wear mini skirt, showing everything and everything on her is artificial and dressed up looking like mermaid.

In the old, sinners go home weeping but today, sinners go home rejoicing

The ancient answer altar calls with tears rolling down their faces, while the modern do same chewing gum.

In the old Church, only the holy of holies climb the altar, but today comedians are invited to mount the altar, cracking jokes with the Word of God and making a mockery of the body of Christ.

Where are we going, Christians? Oh Lord, revive your Church.
