Tito Jackson, brother of Michael Jackson, passes away at 70

Tito Jackson, an original member of The Jackson 5 and brother of Michael Jackson, passed away at the age of 70 on September 15, reportedly due to a heart attack.

The news was first publicized by Steve Manning, a longtime Jackson family friend and former family manager, who told “ET” that Tito had died on Sunday.

His death was also confirmed by his nephew, Siggy Jackson through People, and shared via an emotional statement from his sons, Taj, Taryll, and TJ Jackson, who expressed their heartbreak on social media.

“Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being,” they said.

“He will be missed tremendously. It will forever be ‘Tito Time’ for us. Please remember to do what our father always preached and that is ‘Love One Another.’ We love you, Pops.”

In the weeks leading up to his death, Tito had been actively performing with his brothers, Jackie and Marlon Jackson, under the group name The Jacksons.

They toured various locations, including shows in Scotland and California over the summer of 2024, and performed their last concert on September 8 in Surrey, England.

Just four days before his death, on September 11, Tito and his brothers visited a memorial dedicated to their late brother Michael Jackson in Munich, Germany.

Tito shared on social media, a photo of them at the memorial site, covered in flowers and photos of Michael Jackson. A heartfelt message followed the photo that read:
“We’re deeply grateful for this special place that honors not only his memory but also our shared legacy. Thank you for keeping his spirit alive.”

Tito Jackson was born on October 15, 1953, in Gary, Indiana to parents Joe and Katherine Jackson. He was the third of their 10 children, including his brothers and bandmates- Jackie, Jermaine, Marlon and Michael Jackson, as well as Randy, Rebbie, La Toya, Faloola Tika and Janet Jackson.

Gradually, he rose to fame alongside his brothers as part of the Jackson 5.

With hits like “I Want You Back” and “ABC,” the group became a global sensation in the 1970s, pioneering the rise of boy bands. In 1997, The Jackson 5 were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, earning three Grammy nominations throughout their career for best R&B performance by a duo or group and best contemporary vocal performance by a duo or group.

Tito also pursued a solo career, releasing two albums, Tito Time in 2016 and Under Your Spell in 2021.

Jonathan Moffett, former drummer for Jackson 5 paid a tribute to Tito writing on X: “There is great sadness in my heart tonight – I just found out that my brother in heart and spirit, Tito Jackson has passed.

“I’m stunned, devastated and speechless. I love you, Tito. My most sincere love & prayers for the entire Jackson family. I love you all VERY much”.
