President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate deployment of an Army battalion to Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State after Boko Haram terrorists launched a deadly overnight attack on Worro community, killing several villagers.
In a statement made available to The News Chronicle on Thursday President said the fresh military presence will anchor Operation Savannah Shield, a robust security operation designed to crush the terrorists and secure communities increasingly under threat.
Tinubu strongly condemned the assault, describing it as a cowardly, barbaric act and branding the attackers as heartless criminals who prey on soft targets in a failing campaign of terror.
The President expressed deep anger that the gunmen murdered residents who had resisted attempts at forced indoctrination, opting instead to practise Islam founded on peace, tolerance, and non-violence.
“It is worthy of note that the community members, despite being Muslims, rejected a warped ideology that glorifies violence over dialogue and peaceful coexistence,” Tinubu said.
He directed federal and state security agencies to intensify intelligence-sharing, provide immediate relief to affected families, and ensure that all those responsible for the massacre are hunted down and brought to justice.
President Tinubu offered prayers for the souls of the deceased and extended his condolences to grieving families and to the people and government of Kwara State, assuring them that his administration remains committed to safeguarding lives and restoring peace.
