Tinubu Urges Peaceful Conduct as FCT, Kano, Rivers Head to Polls

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on voters, security agencies, and electoral officials to ensure orderly and peaceful conduct during Saturday’s elections in the Federal Capital Territory, Kano State, and Rivers State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is set to conduct area council elections across the FCT, alongside bye-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II constituencies of Rivers State, and Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.

In a statement issued Friday, the President urged eligible voters to turn out without fear, stressing that democracy flourishes in an atmosphere of calm, tolerance, and mutual respect.

He warned political parties, candidates, and supporters against violence, inciting rhetoric, or any actions capable of undermining the credibility of the electoral process.

Tinubu also cautioned security personnel against intimidation or high-handedness, reminding them that their duty is to safeguard lives, property, and the integrity of the ballot not to disenfranchise citizens.

The President charged INEC to strengthen public confidence by ensuring timely accreditation, seamless voting, accurate collation, and prompt transmission of results in line with the Electoral Act.

He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting institutions responsible for delivering free, fair, and credible elections, expressing confidence that the polls would reflect the will of the people and deepen Nigeria’s democratic journey.

The statement was signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
