President Bola Tinubu shared that his government is investing in digital technology to help small businesses grow and create more opportunities for people in Nigeria.

He said this when he met with a group from Meta Platforms Incorporated, led by Sir Nick Clegg, who used to be the Deputy Prime Minister of the UK and is now the President of Global Affairs at Meta.

Tinubu believes it’s crucial for Nigeria to keep up with advancements in technology and is working to make sure people have the skills they need to succeed in this digital age.

He talked about a program called 3MTT, where three million young Nigerians will be trained in digital technology and then put to work in innovation centers across the country.

“For us in Nigeria, we have a vibrant, gifted and resourceful youth population. Recognising that the future is most likely to be AI-enabled, we have to prepare our youths and make them ready to compete and participate in the global economy”.

Tinubu sees Nigerian youths as the country’s most valuable asset and wants to prepare them to compete globally.

He wants Nigeria to be a leader in digital technology in Africa and thinks collaboration is key for success.

Tinubu also stressed how important technology is for helping small businesses grow. He wants to create an environment where businesses can thrive and benefit both the businesses and the country.

“What interests me is the use of technology in the development of small businesses. We need to make the business environment more conducive for you and more profitable for us as well. I hope we can collaborate and continue to promote our mutual interests”.

Sir Nick Clegg thanked Tinubu for allowing Meta to install a deep-sea cable in Nigeria, which will greatly increase internet capacity and connectivity in the region. He believes this project will boost economic activity across Africa in the coming years.
