President Bola Tinubu has expressed condolences to former Minister of Transportation and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, over the death of his mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi.
In a statement issued on Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the deceased as a woman of deep Christian faith whose life was dedicated to family, service and humanity.
The President praised her commitment to the Catholic Church and commended her for raising children who devoted themselves to public service, noting that her values of humility, faith and selflessness earned her widespread respect.
“My heartfelt condolences to Rt. Hon. Amaechi, the entire Amaechi family, the Catholic faithful, and the government and people of Rivers State over the loss of Dame Ezinne Amaechi, a champion of faith whose life was marked by humility and selfless service to humanity.
“May Almighty God grant her soul eternal rest and comfort all who mourn her passing at this difficult time,” Tinubu said.
He urged the bereaved family to draw strength from the enduring legacy of faith, dignity and service left behind by the late matriarch, adding that her contributions would continue to inspire her family, the Church and society.
Amaechi’s media office announced her death on Thursday, describing her as a beloved matriarch who held her family together through love, peace and unity.
According to the statement, “Late Mrs. Mary Amaechi was a cherished matriarch who held her family together in love, peace and unity. She was a community women leader and Christian leader, whose belief and faith in God was firm and resolute. She was loved and highly respected in her community, and will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support for those around her and beyond.”
The family also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of sympathy and support received since news of her passing became public.
“Rt. Hon. Amaechi and the entire family are profoundly grateful for the outpouring of condolences and love already being shown them during this difficult time,” the statement added.
The family said funeral arrangements would be announced in due course and appealed for continued prayers and support from friends, associates and well-wishers.
Amaechi, a former Governor of Rivers State and former Minister of Transportation, is the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The death of his mother comes only days after the party’s Lagos State governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, also announced the passing of his mother, Nkechi Stella Rhodes-Vivour.
