President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a new five-year term, effective from Friday, February 27.
The reappointment follows the conclusion of Dr. Audi’s initial five-year term, which began in 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari. Dr. Audi is scheduled to resume his duties on Monday with a renewed mandate from the President.
President Tinubu has charged the Commandant-General to “reposition the service to play a more significant role in the country’s security,” particularly as the Nigerian Police Force focuses on its primary responsibility of protecting citizens from bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists.
Dr. Audi, born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa State, is a seasoned officer who joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996. Throughout his career, he has served in various state commands and, in 2007, was promoted to the rank of Commandant of the Corps before his deployment to the National Headquarters in Abuja.
The Commandant-General holds multiple academic degrees, including a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate, a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE), a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, a PhD in Public Administration, and a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice (MLCJ).
