Tinubu Orders Immediate Nationwide Reduction in Food Prices

President Bola Tinubu has directed a Federal Executive Council (FEC) committee to intensify efforts to bring down the cost of food across the country.

Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Sabi Abdullahi, revealed this on Wednesday in Abuja at a capacity-building workshop for Senate correspondents.

Abdullahi said the president’s directive is aimed at guaranteeing food sovereignty by ensuring safe and unhindered movement of farm produce nationwide.

“The president has given a matching order. A federal executive council committee is already working to promote the safe passage of agricultural commodities across key routes,” Abdullahi stated.

He noted that high transportation costs remain a major driver of food inflation, stressing that government action will help cut down delivery expenses and ultimately lower prices for consumers.

Beyond price reduction, Abdullahi highlighted Tinubu’s broader food sovereignty agenda, which includes availability, accessibility, affordability, and nutritional adequacy on a sustainable basis.

He added that programmes such as the Farmer Soil Health Scheme and Cooperative Reform Initiative were set for rollout, describing cooperatives as “a democratic and productive tool” for mobilising resources and improving livelihoods.

The workshop, themed “Parliamentary Reporting: Issues, Challenges and Responsibilities,” also featured Senate Committee on Media Chairman, Sen. Yemi Adaramodu, former presidential aide Sen. Ita Enang, and NILDS Director-General Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman.
