Tinubu Mourns Nigerian Music Legend, Onyeka Onwenu

President Bola Tinubu has extended his profound condolences to the family of the late Ms. Onyeka Onwenu.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu mourned the passing of the 72-year-old Queen of Songs, whose edifying and mellifluous rendition, ‘One Love’, in the 1990s evoked a fervor of fellowship and harmony.

The President recalled the many artistic interventions of the late musical icon in promoting public good, noting her classic collaboration with King Sunny Ade on ‘Wait for Me’, a melodic campaign on family planning in the 1980s.

Tinubu extoled the life of the versatile and extremely gifted artiste who applied herself to the whole gamut of artistic enterprise and expression, bringing joy and laughter to many.

While condoling with the entertainment industry, the Imo State Government, and the numerous fans of the departed star over this immeasurable loss, the president prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased artiste and that she finds a place yonder where the music never fades and where there is ‘Dancing in the Sun‘.

The iconic singer died Tuesday night after performing at an event at Banana Island, Lagos.

Born in 1952, in Obosi, Anambra State, Nigeria, Onyeka Onwenu began her music career in the 1980s and released her debut album, “For the Love of You,” in 1981 and has since released numerous albums and singles, including the hit song “One Love.”
