The All Progressives Congress (APC) Senate candidate for Kogi Central, Yahaya Bello, has said the current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is tackling the long-standing deterioration of the road linking the Federal Capital Territory to Lokoja, Okene, and Benin City.
Bello made the statement while addressing journalists in Lokoja, noting that the highway had remained a persistent challenge for successive governments.
“Since 1999 till 2023, the road from FCT to Lokoja to Okene across to Benin, defied every administration in this nation. The current administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fixing the road,” he said.
The Abuja-Lokoja-Benin corridor is a key federal route connecting northern and southern Nigeria. It has been a major concern for commuters and transporters due to its deteriorating condition over the years.
Bello added that the ongoing rehabilitation works were vital for improving trade, interstate travel, and security along the corridor.
The federal government has listed the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Abuja-Lokoja-Benin road as one of its priority infrastructure projects under the Renewed Hope agenda.
