President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate release of N111 billion for the construction of Section One of the Akwanga-Jos Road, in a move aimed at accelerating the Federal Government’s flagship infrastructure projects.
Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, announced the approval on Friday while inspecting Sections One and Two of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway alongside members of the National Assembly.
Describing the development as a major milestone, Umahi said the funding would fast-track work on the fourth legacy road project being executed by the administration.
“The President has directed the immediate release of N111 billion to CGC for Section One of the fourth legacy project from Akwanga to Jos, covering about 125 kilometres,” he said.
Umahi further disclosed that Tinubu had mandated the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to represent him at the official flag-off of the project scheduled for July 1, adding that members of the National Assembly would be fully involved in the ceremony.
The minister also revealed that the President had ordered the immediate design of the 156-kilometre Gombe-Bauchi Road, signaling the administration’s determination to expand critical road infrastructure across the country.
“He has also directed that the Gombe-Bauchi Road should be designed immediately. We are already working on it,” Umahi stated.
In addition, the minister announced plans for the design and procurement of the second carriageway of the third legacy project, stretching from Ebonyi through Benue, Kogi and Nasarawa states to the Oweto Bridge.
According to Umahi, the approvals underscore the Tinubu administration’s commitment to fast-tracking strategic infrastructure projects that will improve connectivity, stimulate economic activities and drive national development.
“This is wonderful news for us and all Nigerians. It shows the commitment of the President to delivering critical road infrastructure that will enhance connectivity and economic growth,” he said.
