Stern-looking security personnel yesterday took over Sokoto metropolis ahead of President Gooluck Jonathan’s visit to the state today.
The security operatives were seen in strategic locations in the metropolis while other in uniforms moved in convoy blaring sirens.
Ahead of the visit, Governor Aliyu Wamakko accused the president of demonstrating his hatred for the north, especially the Fulani ethnic group through the recent statements of the minister of Information Labaran Maku.
The governor who reacted to Maku’s alleged statement said his utterances were a proof that President Jonathan’s administration promotes impunity against the north, especially the Fulani ethnic stock.
LEADERSHIP Weekend at Kangiwa Square, where Jonathan would receive former governor of the state, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa into the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), plain-clothe security operative had taken over the arena and stooped residents from using its neighbouring streets.
While insisting that Maku’s statement was not just to portray the Fulani in bad light, Wamakko declared that it was designed to discredit their contribution to the national economy.
