Three Valencia fans have been sentenced to 8 months in prison and banned from entering football stadiums for 2 years for racially abusing Real Madrid player Vinícius Junior on May 16, 2023, during a La Liga match.

This marks the first time in history that fans have received a prison sentence for racially abusing a football player.

In addition to the prison sentence, the three defendants will also be banned from entering any football stadium in Spain for the next two years and must cover the costs of the legal proceedings.

According to La Liga, the original 12-month prison sentence was reduced by a third due to a plea agreement during the preliminary investigation stage.
