Mohammed Garba Isimbabi, who represents the Toto/Gadabuke area in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, reported that a militia group from the Bassa ethnic group has killed three soldiers in the Katakpa community of Toto Local Government Area.

They also killed the village head, Abubakar Sadiq, and several others, and destroyed many homes and belongings. Isimbabi raised this urgent matter during a session of the House in Lafia.

He urged the state government to establish a military base in Katakpa to prevent such tragic events from happening again.

Isimbabi explained that the violence in Katakpa has been ongoing for nearly two months. Governor Abdullahi Sule had previously convened a meeting with local traditional leaders, members of the House of Assembly, and community representatives to address the situation. Despite efforts to restore peace, the Bassa militia continued their attacks.

Isimbabi recounted how, despite agreements made during the meeting for the Bassa community to call on their members to leave the forest and return home, the violence persisted.

“Mr Speaker, it may interest you to know that after the attack while we are struggling to take care of the bodies and the people in the hospital, late in the afternoon, they went back and destroyed all the buildings in that community.

Within 48 hours of the meeting, the militia attacked again, killing soldiers and civilians. Isimbabi emphasized the need for urgent action to protect the people of Katakpa and prevent further bloodshed.
