Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, the Chief Military Public Information Officer of the MNJTF, released a statement detailing these events.
“On June 15, 2024, MNJTF troops conducted clearance operations in the villages of Mazuri, Itsari, Mudu, and Maleri, located on the southern fringes of Lake Chad in Nigeria.”
During these operations, they managed to rescue 34 hostages and killed one terrorist in an encounter.
“Additionally, on June 17, 2024, three ISWAP fighters surrendered to Task Force Wulgo’s vigilant troops.”
“These fighters, who had been based at the Jabilaram Camp—a secluded islet on Lake Chad—were identified as Babakura Abubakar, aged 20, Abacha Kyari, aged 28, and Mohammad Adam, aged 29. They are currently undergoing interrogation for further action.”
The MNJTF statement also highlighted the effectiveness of their airstrike capabilities. On June 9, 2024, airstrikes targeted Kollaram, destroying three suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that were poised for a major terrorist attack.
Lt. Col. Abdullahi emphasized that this precise strike exemplifies the efficacy and capabilities of the air force units contributed by Troops Contributing Countries in neutralizing high-value terrorist targets and mitigating potential threats.
The combined efforts of ground and air operations are significantly degrading the operational strength and morale of terrorist factions in the region.
The MNJTF remains resolute in its mission to eradicate terrorism, ensure the safety of civilians, and foster a secure and peaceful environment conducive to long-term stability.
Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Sallau Ali, the Force Commander, commended the bravery of the troops involved in these operations.
He reiterated the MNJTF’s commitment to restoring normalcy and peace in the region through continued vigilance and proactive engagements.
