The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed the death of three passengers following the derailment of the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) in Agbor, Delta State.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, June 8, 2026, saw four coaches veer off the rail line.
In a statement, NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, said emergency response teams were immediately deployed, adding that all passengers have since been accounted for.
“Sadly, three fatalities have been confirmed at this time,” the corporation stated, while noting that rescue and recovery operations are ongoing in collaboration with relevant authorities.
Opeifa said support is being provided to affected passengers and families, while investigations have commenced to determine the cause of the derailment.
He expressed condolences to the victims, saying the thoughts and prayers of the corporation and Nigerians are with those affected.
The NRC urged the public to rely only on official updates as response efforts and assessments continue.
