Thomas Frank Fires Back at Carragher After Spurs’ Resounding Response to Criticism

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has hit back at Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher after the former Liverpool defender heavily criticised Spurs’ performance against Chelsea last weekend.

Frank dismissed the remarks, saying it is much easier to sit in a studio and analyse games than to manage a team on the touchline under pressure.

The News Chronicle learned that Carragher had slammed Tottenham’s lack of “courage, confidence, and ability” during their 1–0 defeat to Chelsea, a game in which Spurs registered a record-low 0.05 expected goals. His comments also targeted new signings Joao Palhinha and Xavi Simons, accusing them of failing to meet the club’s expectations. However, just two days later, Frank’s men silenced critics with an emphatic 4–0 win over Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League.

Asked about Carragher’s comments after the European triumph, Frank said he hadn’t watched the pundit’s analysis and suggested that pundits often speak for attention. “The pundits are pundits—they have to talk about something,” he remarked. “I’ve done that job before; it’s far easier than standing on the sidelines trying to manage a team through difficult moments.”

Despite going down to 10 men after Brennan Johnson was sent off for a high challenge, Spurs dominated the game.

Goals from Johnson, Wilson Odobert, Micky van de Ven, and Joao Palhinha sealed a commanding victory. Frank praised his players’ response, noting that strong teams are defined by how they recover from setbacks.

The Danish tactician also described Johnson’s red card as “harsh,” insisting there was no intent or recklessness in the challenge.

Tuesday’s victory restores Spurs’ confidence ahead of their Premier League clash with Manchester United this weekend—a rematch of last season’s Europa League final, which Tottenham won 1–0.

With momentum back on their side, Frank’s men now look determined to silence critics and reassert their place among England’s top contenders.
