This Is Not Harmattan- NOA, EPA Warn Nigerians of Adverse Weather Condition

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has urged Nigerians to be cautious of the present dusty weather experienced in parts of the country.

The agencies in an advisory on Monday, warned that the weather is not harmattan, but an extreme form of air pollution that is harmful to the health of citizens.

The advisory revealed that the adverse weather condition may result in reduced lung function, respiratory infections, inflammation, and oxidative stress, which affects the body’s balance.

It advised Nigerians to adopt precautionary measures to be able to stay safe from the adverse weather conditions, including wearing nose masks, drinking plenty of water, covering food and water to keep dust off, washing fruits thoroughly before eating, and staying indoors as much as possible.

The advisory also read, “Use Shea butter (ORI) on your body and hair, especially before bed.

“Drink warm water regularly, especially for the elderly.

“Avoid the sun during hot afternoons.

“Do not eat cold food in the morning, especially for the elderly.

”Don’t use A/C or fans at night; wait until morning to avoid catching a cold.

“Keep your chest warm until noon.

“Always wear a nose mask in public places, on motorcycles (OKADA), or in public transport.”

While noting that the situation may last for a while, the agencies encouraged Nigerians to stay safe and share the information with others for proper concern and protection of their lives at all times.
