They Want Me Dead -Tinubu Speaks on Enemies of Fuel Subsidy, Forex Reforms

President Bola Tinubu has alleged that powerful interests benefiting from oil subsidy payments and multiple exchange rates are wishing him dead following the economic reforms he introduced after assuming office in 2023.

The President made the revelation on Wednesday through former Ogun State governor, Olusegun Osoba, during the launch of the book “The NADECO Story” written by Chief Ayo Opadokun and an award presentation ceremony held by the National Democratic Coalition in Lagos.

According to Osoba, who represented Tinubu at the event, the President said certain cabals angered by the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of exchange rates were deliberately working to destabilize the country.

“He said those cabals who are doing round-tripping will wish him dead any time, but he is determined that if that is the only thing he would do, he would make sure he rearranges the economy,” Osoba said on behalf of the President.

Tinubu reportedly maintained that despite resistance from entrenched interests, he remains committed to overhauling the economy and tackling insecurity.

The President also praised NADECO members for their role in restoring democracy in Nigeria, saying he would not have attained power without their sacrifices during the military era struggle.

Osoba further disclosed that Tinubu promised to address key political concerns and implement additional reforms if re-elected for a second term, stressing that his current focus remains on the economy and security.

Also speaking at the event were notable pro-democracy figures, including Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, legal icon Olisa Agbakoba, and traditional ruler Rasheed Ladoja, who emphasized the need to sustain Nigeria’s democracy and honour those who fought for civil rule.

The event also recognized several media organizations and democracy activists for their contributions to the struggle against military dictatorship in Nigeria.
