The governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji has said that the Igbo will not present a presidential candidate for the 2015 presidential election because the region has chosen President Goodluck Jonathan as its candidate, and as a result any Igbo person who is aspiring to contest the election is embarking on a futile journey.
The governor said this while receiving a delegation of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos branch, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group in Umuahia.
Orji also said that President Jonathan remained the best choice of Ndigbo, and that any Igbo presidential aspirant who joined the race with the hope of getting appointments would fail.
The governor said, “Any person who tries it will fail. No person has any chance from this place, South East, as long as President Jonathan wants to run. For us in Abia, supporting the President is sacrosanct”.
Orji pledging his commitment to Ohanaeze said, “Every reasonable Igbo man should be a member of Ohanaeze. I am committed to supporting Ohanaeze now and forever”.
In addition, the governor condemned the activities of detractors who are determined to rubbish the work of Ohanaeze.
