Almost seven days since the unfortunate death of Dr. Herbert Wigwe, his wife and child the Internet has been awashed with revelations behind the “stupendiosity” of his wealth. I remember writing my little tribute to him a day after his death. It was one death that touched my emotions deeply.Â
It brought closer to me the vanity of life and the need to focus more on things that defie transiency, more on things that would determine ones place in the infinite world. I also expressed my displeasure on the way and manner his position was filled immediately he died.
Though many saw it differently, explaining it away on company policy which he Wigwe was part of.
This also goes to show the dispensable values of whatever we do in life. Nobody is the only go to, no matter the nobility, royalty, eminent and highly classified schedule one controls, once ones breath is gone, the process of forgetting one and moving on begins.
Just a matter of weeks the readjustment, realignment and reconstitution of system would have been completed and most times whatever impact the deceased left would have been dimmed, except on rare occasions.
Few days ago I got an in- box message from someone requesting i forward the trending video of Bode George on the source of Late Herbert Wigwe’ wealth.
That video was made before the death of Herbert. Trust Nigerians and their craves for sensationalism. They went, dug it out and dusted it. The question on my lips is, why didn’t that clip trend then? Why is it trending now? After his gruesome death? Though many have in- boxed me asking for my opinion on that clip. Simply, in an off the cuff manner I responded thus: Speak no evil of the death, though a lot of skeleton.
But is it really a good response? Does saying in a matter of fact way about the deeds and escapades of one after death , bad and evil? Even when truth is pivotal in all the narrations? Herbert from his numerous heritage: Access Bank, Access Bank Heritage, Tengen Holdings,How foundations NG and Wigwe university wasn’t a man of feeble mind and fledging financial muscles. He did well for himself, his family and of course his generation. Many of these legacies if well managed will continue to provide services to Nigerians. But the question is, how did he make such money? Readily some would say his 9% share in Access bank is enough to do that. Of course. How was he able to get such a 9 % share in Access bank? Through Dollar racketeering? As Bode George insinuated? Or other undisclosed means?
The truth is , which isn’t particular to Herbert and Access bank, is that bank and bank managers have a lot of skeletons in their cupboards. Their shady dealings are not eclipsed from public glare and scrutiny. Their daily charges and surcharges one too many, deducting them in a very barefaced manner. I doubt if there are any person who hasn’t had issues with such charges. What Wigwe’ death and the various Pandora boxes it opened is to show that Nigerians are very much aware of the masterclass financial impunity and corruption that go on in our banks.
Some, based on hindsight have accused them of being complicit in many of the frauds committed by hackers, if they themselves are not even the real account hackers.
Bode George didn’t just stop there, he was bold and scathing with his revelation on how bank managers and CEO’ make their money dubiously. If you have not watched it, kindly find it and watch . If what Bode George said were nothing but the truth, then Nigeria is nothing but a country in multiple hostages by characters that ordinarily should negotiate for her freedom.
Go watch that video, I bet you, you would be at cross road, making a clear cut decision on who is the worst criminal between politicians, kidnappers, and Bank managers.
In that video clip, Bode George questioned the primary source of the stupendous wealth of Emefele, Elumelu, etc have you bothered to ask? Could it be the cause of the per second fall of naira against dollar? The ripple effect of hoarding and profiteering of dollars by these hawks of bank managers and CEO’?
Nigerian is like a woman with a multi dimensional fibroid, making economic stability conception a hectic one. She is fertile and would carry her babies but for these multiple fibroid in the guise of corrupt politicians, shylock bank managers, greedy judiciary and fake God of men her fertility wouldn’t be in dire straits situation.
As we continue to mourn the death of Dr. HERBERT WIGWE unto eternity, we pray God accepts his soul and grand him peace.
And to all the bank managers and bank CEO’ , on our knees we “dey beg una”, “make una” pity Nigerians and deal with us kindly. In “una” hands, many Nigerians are bleeding.
Remember! God is still on the throne and cannot be mocked!
