Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, was thrown into chaos on Thursday as motorcycle riders (okada riders) blocked major roads in protest against the killing of one of their members.
According to an eyewitness, Mohammed Shehu, the deceased rider was allegedly killed after refusing to pay a daily N50 levy imposed by the Motorcycle Riders Association.
Shehu explained that the rider attempted to evade the fee, leading to a confrontation that resulted in his death.
In response, the angry okada riders mobilized and blocked all roads leading to and within the town, bringing activities to a halt.
Stranded motorists were unable to move, and those who tried to force their way through had their vehicle windscreens smashed by the protesters.
The protest has paralyzed movement in Gusau, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded.
