Hours after the mass defection of PDP lawmakers to the ruling APC, The Fubara-led administration in Rivers State has begun the demolition of the State House of Assembly building on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, for reconstruction.
It was reported that the edifice was leveled down without any item been taken out of the building.
Recalled that the legislative arm of the state has been involved in a serious backlash following the mass defection of these lawmakers believed to have been loyal to the FCT Minister and said to be plotting the impeachment of the sitting governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
It was however gathered, in the early hours of Wednesday 13th December 2023 that over 10 bulldozers, excavators, and other heavy-duty machines were seen pulling down the assembly complex believed to have been built by the tax payers’ money.
Reports indicate that the demolition which began at about 7:30 a.m is still ongoing as at the time of filing this report.
Responding on the incident, the Rivers state Commissioner for Information Joe Johnson revealed that the demolition was instructive to the recommendation of the building engineer who advised that the burnt section of the Assembly Complex be pulled down for total refurbishment.
Recall that a few weeks ago, the hallowed chambers of the Rivers state assembly was burned down by unknown political thugs.
