Technology Can Deliver Credible Elections When Deployed With Integrity — Sam Amadi

Political analyst and Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, Dr. Sam Amadi has said that technology, when deployed with integrity, can deliver transparent and credible elections that accurately reflect the will of the people, despite technical challenges and cyber threats.

In an interview on Arise News, monitored by The News Chronicle, Amadi said the recent Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) presidential election demonstrated how technology could strengthen electoral credibility even in the face of operational difficulties and a cyberattack that tested the voting system.

According to him, the election of Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association represented more than a historic milestone.

He noted that her emergence as the first woman elected to the office, and only the second woman to lead the association, underscored the triumph of competence over convention.

Amadi argued that, beyond Badejo-Okusanya’s victory, the election also marked a triumph for the principles of transparency, accountability, and technological innovation, which he said are essential to strengthening democratic institutions.

According to him, every credible election helps restore public trust, while every transparent process reassures citizens that democracy functions best when votes, not influence, money, or manipulation, determine electoral outcomes.

He further stressed that Nigeria’s democratic future would not be secured through speeches alone but by building credible institutions, conducting transparent elections, and ensuring that leaders emerge through the unquestionable mandate of the people.

Reflecting on the broader significance of the NBA election, Amadi said its greatest legacy may not simply be the emergence of a woman as NBA president, but the renewed confidence that technology, integrity, and courageous leadership can collectively redefine the future of democracy in Nigeria.
