The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has taken delivery of two 100 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) power transformers for its ongoing 330/132/33 Kilo Volt (kV) substation project in Katsina State.
TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, describing the development as part of the company’s strategic grid expansion programme.
According to Mbah, the transformers are key components for completing the substation and strengthening the national transmission network, particularly in Katsina State and the North-West region.
She said that once installed, tested and commissioned, the transformers would increase the region’s transmission capacity by an additional 160 megawatts (MW).
“The power transformers are critical components required for the completion of the substation. Once installed, tested and commissioned, they will increase the region’s transmission capacity by an additional 160 megawatts.
“When the substation is completed and energised, it will improve the reliability, flexibility and overall efficiency of power transmission. It will also significantly boost TCN’s capacity to evacuate additional bulk electricity,” she said.
Mbah noted that the increased transmission capacity would enable the company to supply more bulk electricity to Distribution Companies (DisCos) serving Katsina and neighbouring communities, improving electricity supply across the region.
She added that the Katsina project is one of several transmission infrastructure projects being executed nationwide to expand, modernise and reinforce the national grid in line with Nigeria’s growing electricity demand.
