The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has blasted Northern governors for reversing their opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s proposed tax reform bills.
Initially opposing the reforms over concerns about regional disparities and economic hardship, the governors recently endorsed the legislation following a meeting with the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF).
AYCF President Yerima Shettima, on Friday, accused the governors of lacking integrity, foresight, and commitment to the region’s welfare, labeling their initial opposition as divisive and their reversal as a betrayal of public trust.
The group argued that robust taxation is essential for funding critical sectors and fostering development.
Highlighting governance failures in the North, the AYCF linked persistent poverty and underdevelopment to poor leadership and resource mismanagement.
The forum urged the governors to provide transparent explanations for their actions and pledged to advocate for sustainable policies promoting national growth.
