Taraba State Governor establishes 18-person committee to oversee the planning of 2023 Nwonyo Fishing Festival

Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has formed an 18-member committee for the upcoming 2023 Nwonyo fishing festival in Ibi Local Government Council.

The Governor announced this through a press statement from his Chief Press Secretary in Jalingo on a Sunday.

The committee is diverse, comprising government officials, traditional and spiritual leaders, and elected or political appointees. Heading the committee is the Taraba State Deputy Governor, Alh. Abdullahi Aminu Alkali, with Hon. Joseph Titus Nagombe, Commissioner for Heritage and Eco Tourism, as Vice Chairman. The Secretary of the committee is the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Eco Tourism.

Among the committee members are HRM. Manu Ishaku Adda Ali Matakitwen, known as The Aku Uka of Wukari, serving as the spiritual and traditional leader.

The committee also includes the Chairman of the House Committee on Culture and Tourism and the Commissioner of Finance, Dr. Sarah Enoch Adi. Dr. Peter George, Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, is also a member.

The statement emphasizes the inclusion of all appointed honorable Commissioners from the Southern Taraba State Zone, Dr. Babangida Hassan, the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of Local Government, Traditional and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Mrs. Christy Mark Useni, who is the MD/Chairman of the Tourism Development Board.

Additionally, members comprise His Excellency, Armaya’u Dauda Abubakar, and all members of the Taraba State House of Assembly from the Southern Taraba State zone, along with elected National Assembly members from the same zone.

The standing committee also welcomes Rev. Dr. Isaiah Magaji Jerapye, President CRC-N/CAN chairman Taraba State, Mal. Rabilu Muktar, Chief Imam of Ibi Central Mosque in Ibi Local Government Council, and HRH. Sanvala Varzon Shimbura, known as the Gara of Donga.

Completing the committee are HRH. Abubakar Salihu Danbawuro (III), Chief of Ibi, and all elected local government chairmen from the Southern Taraba State zone.
