Tambuwal Joins ADC, Dumps PDP Amid Infighting

Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, CFR, former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator for Sokoto South, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a letter dated March 11, 2026, addressed to his ward chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri Ward, Tambuwal announced his immediate exit from the PDP, citing deep reflection and consultations with political allies and supporters.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives pointed to persistent internal crises, leadership disputes, and widening divisions within the PDP as reasons for his departure, noting that the conflicts had eroded the party’s unity and direction.

“I am grateful to the PDP for the opportunities it afforded me to serve Nigeria—as Speaker of the House and as Governor of Sokoto State. However, the current state of internal disarray makes continued membership untenable,” Tambuwal said.

Following his resignation, Tambuwal and his supporters formally joined the ADC, emphasizing his belief in the need for a political platform rooted in integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and national development.

He reaffirmed his dedication to democracy, justice, and national unity, vowing to continue serving Nigeria through his new political alignment.
