TAJBank Limited has won the 2026 Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA) Championship Award for Digital Banking in the United Kingdom.
The bank’s Managing Director, Mr Hamid Joda, was also named the recipient of the 2026 Islamic Banker of the Year award.
According to a statement issued by the bank in Abuja on Monday, the awards recognise TAJBank’s sustained commitment to Islamic banking best practices and its people-oriented strategies for expanding non-interest banking products and services at the grassroots.
GIFA Chairman, Prof. Humayon Dar, said the awards followed extensive consideration and deliberations by the organisation’s committee.
He said the decision to honour TAJBank and Joda was based on various factors outlined in the GIFA methodology.
Reacting to the recognition, Joda described the awards as a call for renewed commitment to Islamic banking practices in Nigeria.
He said TAJBank would continue to leverage innovative products and service delivery strategies to ensure that more Nigerians benefit from its offerings sustainably.
“Let me say that the Global Islamic Banker of the Year 2026 award is conferred on me, but the commendation goes to our Board of Directors, management and staff of TAJBank, as well as our customers who are creating the enabling environment for my performance.

“I thank the GIFA committee for honouring me and TAJBank with the global awards.
“I also thank the regulatory authorities, our shareholders and customers for these awards and promise them that we shall continue to do our best to retain TAJBank as the biggest Islamic bank in the country.
“This we will do by complying with the best ethical banking practices in their best interest, which is the main purpose of our operations.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that GIFA is a global organisation that promotes social responsibility, Shari’a authenticity and commitment to Islamic banking and finance.
